Queensland Police Service are once again under scrutiny for brutality, with Morningside Police allegedly assaulting a Brisbane woman at Norman Bowls Club on Friday night.
31 year old K—- Edwards is covered in cuts and bruises after attending a Pauline Hanson speech that anti-fascism activists tried to storm.
“I was there to peacefully protest Pauline’s racist views” Ms Edwards told us “I was standing at the back giving people peace signs, well away from what was happening at the front, when two Police Officers grabbed me from behind.”
K—- was clearly shaken as she described the alleged attack, claiming the two officers who grabbed her then threw her against a wall and treated her roughly before kicking and stomping on Ms Edwards after she fell to the ground. “More Police joined in after I fell to the ground. There were six or so officers on me…a girl. They were all men, six men” K—- said “I have never been violent in my entire life. I have never been so cross in my entire life.”
Jay, a witness who was there on the night told us “She was not amongst the crowd; she was standing at the back smiling and doing peace signs. It looked like they were picking an easy target”
An employee from the venue said he did not think Police handled it well at all.
Ms Edwards claims that the police took her umbrella when they attacked her. “I asked for it back and told them I have a skin condition and need it to go in the sun. One of them told me I didn’t need it now because it is dark and they laughed at me and broke it.”
K—-, who already suffers from social anxiety, feels as though the incident has made her anxiety worse. “I don’t feel safe anymore. Police are supposed to protect people and they do this. I am disgusted.”
Ms Edwards has made a formal complaint at the Charlotte St Police Station and been told that the incident is now under investigation.
This kind of behaviour is not exclusive to Q.P.S. This militant culture in the Police Department is becoming more and more apparent. Our Police Service has become a Police Force. They are given more powers to control the population; their training is becoming more militarised (even their uniforms look more like tactical response teams), their attitude is no longer about serving and protecting, it is about controlling, bending us to the will of our government and raising revenue.
Brutality in the Police Department is becoming an epidemic, we need to take notice and put a stop to this before we end up with Quasi-Soldiers on our streets instead of Police Officers.
